The lines are very faded, making the drawing very difficult to read. The figure, in three-quarter, is shown as advancing to the left, with the left leg stretched forward. The head seems to be covered by a brimmed helmet, while the upper part of the body is covered by a large shield that reaches down to the knees only. These two elements suggest that the gladiator might have been a provocator.","caption":"Drawing of a gladiator","writingStyleInEnglish":"charcoal","property":{"englishPropertyName":"Basilica","italianPropertyName":"Basilica","insula":{"shortName":"Agora","fullName":"Agora","city":{"name":"Smyrna","pleiadesId":"550771"}},"propertyTypes":[{"name":"Basilica","description":""}],"numberOfGraffiti":325,"uri":"Smyrna/Agora/1","propertyName":"Basilica","propertyNumber":"1"},"figuralInfo":{"drawingTags":[{"name":"Gladiators","description":""}],"descriptionInLatin":"((:gladiator cum scuto))","descriptionInEnglish":"gladiator with shield"},"trismegistosNumber":null,"uri":"https://ancientgraffiti.org/Graffiti/graffito/AGP-SMYD00113","agpId":"AGP-SMYD00113","citation":"AGP-SMYD00113, <i>The Ancient Graffiti Project</i>, &lt;https://ancientgraffiti.org/Graffiti/graffito/AGP-SMYD00113&gt; [accessed: 29 Apr 2026]","pleiadesId":"550771","locationMetadataLink":"properties/Smyrna/Agora/1"}
